Emma Zang's research focuses on family, health, and aging. She is particularly interested in understanding the determinants of dementia and cognitive decline in general among older adults. She also investigates ways to support caregivers of individuals with cognitive impairment. Zang develops statistical tools, such as Bayesian survival analyses and finite mixture models, to model health trajectories and life transitions among persons with cognitive impairment.

Zang is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, Biostatistics, and Global Affairs at Yale University. She received her PhD in Public Policy in 2019 and MA in Economics in 2017, both from Duke University. She has a super cute dog, a standard poodle, who is somewhat of a celebrity on campus and in Zang's community. His picture is often featured in her presentation slides and teacher evaluations, and students love him!
